Keyhole spaying (or Laparoscopic spay) is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional spay methods providing faster recovery times, and importantly, it is much less painful for your pet.
Traditionally, spaying techniques are more invasive with much larger incision wounds resulting in increased trauma to surrounding tissues. Your pet will have two much smaller incisions with a laparoscopic procedure (typically 1-2cm each) and therefore feel less pain and discomfort.
Laparoscopic recovery times are much shorter, with your pet typically feeling normal after only a few days, rather than 10-14 days with traditional surgery. They will often want to run around as if nothing has happened, but rest is still important to allow healing. Smaller wound incisions can also reduce irritation and post-operative wound interference, which is a common complication with standard surgical methods. It isn’t too long before they are back to normal levels of activity and that means less stress for the whole family.
Whilst laparoscopic spays are the most commonly performed procedure with the equipment, we can also perform other surgical procedures such as internal organ biopsy giving the same reduced pain and recovery benefits for your pet.
