Keyhole spaying (or Laparoscopic spay) is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional spay methods providing faster recovery times, and importantly, it is much less painful for your pet.
Traditionally, spaying techniques are more invasive with much larger incision wounds resulting in increased trauma to surrounding tissues. Your pet will have two much smaller incisions with a laparoscopic procedure (typically 1-2cm each) and therefore feel less pain and discomfort.
Laparoscopic recovery times are much shorter at 2-3 days versus 10-14 days, meaning that stress is reduced for you and your pet, and you can both get back to normal daily activities in no time at all! Smaller incision wounds can also reduce irritation and interference with the wound post operatively, which can often cause complications and in turn extend recovery times with traditional surgery methods.
Whilst laparoscopic spays are the most commonly performed procedure with the equipment, we can also perform other surgical procedures such as internal organ biopsy giving the same reduced pain and recovery benefits for your pet.
The advantages of laparoscopic surgery:
- Reduced pain
- Faster recovery rates
- Reduced risk of problems with wound healing
- Lower risk of infection

Laparoscopic spay is an additional fixed cost of £225 to the standard spay fee for the size of your pet (Total Wellness Plan 50% discount only applies to the standard spay fee). For more information and pricing please contact us.
Laparoscopic Testimonial
“Penny, our Labrador, is not the bravest dog so we researched all the options before choosing to have her spayed by keyhole surgery. We ended up travelling quite a way to find a vet we trusted and Grahame, and the team, did not disappoint. When we collected her, she didn’t seem in any real pain or discomfort and, although sleepy, the first evening was surprisingly normal. By the next morning, she was keen to go outside and even pestered us for her morning walk. The small wounds healed brilliantly and even though the area shaved was large, her fur grew back really quickly. All in all, we would never choose the old-fashioned way again.” Amy, Penny’s mum
